A deadly cushion
Say you suck at life, or you suck at a certain area, like sports, school, girls, anything that really means a lot to you. An area that you really want to be successful, but can't. Wouldn't it be great to have a disease for that, thats minor, so that it wont affect you really, but somehow prevents you from getting to the top. This would be perfect because no longer would you be in the competative plane for the normal man, but trancend it, so that no one can compare you (thus no one can say you suck), but every single accomplishment would be viewed as greatness because your disabled in that area. So it would impede you, but ur ego will be restored and it would in a odd sense be an encouragement to succede in that area. Though i say this percpective is myopic and even insulting to the disabled, but it is still fun to think about if one has that doomed ego

Bravo! Bravo! now I shall stop trying in school, thanks for giving me a great excuse. Hood stomp
You say this assuming humanity looks kindly upon the sick. While this is true in most cases, remember that there is already a school of thought stating that all sicknesses are purely state of mind. These people have little sympathy even for people suffering from viral or bacterial infections. If other weaknesses were suddenly classified as sicknesses, this philosophy's popularity would increase, and soon most people would consider things like the flu and AIDS as weaknesses in character instead of weakness in immunity.
You make a good point that my percpetion was a too optimistic, but at the same time is society suppose to go back to those ancient times when everyone thought that sickness was caused by sin or the devil (or in this case "weaknesses in character"). Hopefully science has made the general population more understanding and sympathetic.
